Glad to see this come into force.

While out as volunteer with the BTCV, we found snares and gin traps on land that was supposed to be wildlife refuges.

Wildlife crimes often go unreported and are not frequently investigated.

It depends. All animals need a balance. If not mother nature takes over and it is ugly. We have hunting/trapping rules for a reason. We also have endangered species rules for a reason. In some areas we need to help keep a symbiotic relationship within the intended communities.

Yes, humans move in animals get pushed out. However, let's use whitetail for example. Over population leads to disease that wipes out hundreds at a time. I've seen it with my own eyes.

A typical example in the UK is that of Mink. Brought into the UK for fur / sport hunting but escaped and wrought havoc on UK habitats. Inarguably cute little creatures but behaviourally aggressive, invasive & destructive to natural UK species. Trapping them is necessary; snaring however is horrific.

We have hunting & trapping rules as a legacy throwback to a time when such things were necessary for our survival. We STILL have them because some self-absorbed tards just can't just let nature be. Outside of conservation efforts, hunting / trapping should be all but entirely illegal.

I agree it shouldn't be overdone nor overly cruel. Conservation should be #1 priority. It makes me sick seeing poaching or killing over limits. They can put those people in jail for life.

I used to snare rabbits as a kid. I was raised not to think about it, but snaring really was cruel and should be illegal.

I remember being 10 years old and finding a rabbit still alive in a snare so I had to end its suffering, even though with snares, the animal always suffers.
