Wish I could say I was shocked. Husband was one of the long-time Philips CPAP users who had a potentially cancer-causing machine and waited in a queue for TWO YEARS for a replacement. The replacement sent was a refurbished machine with someone else's data card in it. Hat's off to Propublica.
I interviewed one of the reporters who did the follow up story on the recall replacements that have their own issues. I'd strongly suggest your husband see if he can get a ResMed machine. That story links to this one.
We’ve been working on a replacement for the past year. Turns out even though the refurbished CPAP wasn’t “new” our insurance counted it as such, so we are battling to get them to cover a new purchase since his current device is less than 5 years old. It’s been a nightmare.
That's what we did when I got one, years ago. It let me tell the insurance company to go pound sand when they wanted to see my "compliance data". It was not cheap, but it was worth it.
I have had a bad experience with Lincare. I tried to switch to another company but was unable to because of the way medicare pays for respiratory equipment. Something needs to change in the way profit harms our healthcare.

I'm not sponsored by them and don't work for them. I just hate insurance and its nonsense.

The one I linked above is less than that. It was waaaaay more with insurance.
Someone should be going to jail.
