Excited to share our new (update v5) to our #Ralstonia Diversity Preprint, which explores the who, what, & where!
Ralstonia are pathogenic bacteria that threaten global food security by causing the plant version of a heart attack💔 ... wilt disease 🥀!

Our goal: 🕵️♀️Understand which Ralstonia are problems where 🌍 and on which plants 🥀.
Since 2020, I have mentored 5 cohorts of UC Davis undergrads to consolidate the public knowledge on Ralstonia diversity, hosts of isolation, and locations.
This dataset has revealed new patterns in pathogen ecology to me. ‼️
(Btw--Using the public KBase narrative in the preprint, anyone can add new Ralstonia genomes to a curated species tree. Sharing is caring)
Phylotypes distribution reflects their geographic origins:
I originated in continental Asia🌏
II in the Americas🌎
III in Africa🌍
IV in SE Asia🌏
The pandemic lineage IIB-1 is regulated as a Select Agent in the U.S. and causes a 3% GLOBAL loss on potato🥔.
