The myth of non violent protest is that there can exist a sustained & effective campaign of non violent, popular protest.
The truth is that the rules & laws of what is allowed is arbitrated by police at any given moment. If its sustained & effective, police will simply bring the violence themselves

Gwen Snyder is uncivil
Yup, and in Philly the Occupy eviction arrests were also blatantly illegal (and often violent).
We marched voluntarily and legally out of the occupation area, they ultimately kettled us, ordered us to evacuate the area they'd forcibly fenced us into, and then arrested us for failure to comply.

When you refuse, security takes you to the back and roughs you up. “The house always wins”-policy.
If you don’t take the carrot, they will simply give you the stick, over and over.
Who was violent? Who was hurt? Who was attacked? Who started it?
Often enough, you’ll find that the police were the violent ones. Or that they started the violence. That the police came to start a riot.
There would be no Stonewall riot without excessive & constant police violence.
There is no good cop & there are no bad protestors.
