I think even the dumbest republican voter will find "cutting public programs with no new tax cuts and a larger deficit" not exactly the most thrilling agenda he's ever heard
I think if you don’t read centrist or left leaning news, the elimination of public programs will be a “boil the frog” if they don’t touch social security, medicare, or medicaid. Like someone offline won’t realize the cfpb is gone
Without raising taxes or cutting defense (untenable to do either for rs) I think the only way they balance the budget is slashing social security, Medicare, or Medicaid
But also important to point out: They are not balancing the budget. With the cuts and renewal of the tax bill, it's a 4 trillion dollar addition to the deficit
Someone described rn as Jan/Feb 2020. Since direct payments (like the above) haven’t been impacted most Americans are clueless to what’s going on. There will be a mass collective stove touching moment this year or next though
