I love incorporating lore details into outfit design/culture in my world. The wave shapes on the hat represent the ocean that the Rift Star pours out of (same with lower robe pattern). The star and moon correspond to the lesser rift star pouring out of the moon’s surface. Then obvious soul imagery.
Oh also! Their spirit emissary friend has a little bell to help with navigation! They follow safe paths and ring the bell as they do! They’ll make different chirps depending on terrain or hazards and will help Nio steer directly if necessary!
Spirit guide fwend! :0
Also love their design! It evokes the idea of a being existing in a place they are foreign in if that makes sense, like a mystic curiosity and newness to em. Just a cool mystery wrapped in circumstance adorned with oddities all manifesting as them.
the damage they've sustained is physically incapable of getting "magicked away" their body has been altered at its source. And creating a body to house a soul and transferring a consciousness over to it is not something even the most powerful mages can do. soul magic means using souls to fuel spells
Sorry if that came across a little rude I was just being a bit much I suppose; but it makes sense and I get it.
That being said, I suppose "Rifts" are very chaotic magic anomalies? Due to the nature of inflicting non-mendable scars and destroying islands. How big and small can they typically be?
I just don’t like writing a magic system that eliminates all hardships with no difficulty or consequences.
And rift storms and fissures appear more frequently along fault lines usually in the ocean but islands and landmasses near those lines experience them as well.
I get ya. 😤
Magic, in a story I'm making, is pretty loose but it's really regulated and there are risks with somethings... it's got me sort of plugging leaks and then causing new ones.
I like that Rifts take place along Fault lines, it's pretty clever to make the force of the world the source.

Sounds interesting. Please, elaborate.
Here’s what it looks like though:
