I think the article paints a slightly too rosy picture of the history of the CDU. After all they had no problems back then working with Ronald Schill in Hamburg. And we also can all remember the "Asylkompromiss" or the slogan "Kinder statt Inder"

Voters might see it differently. The SPD/Greens have shown that they hold citizens hostage to their ideology. On top of that, like all other parties, they are right to point the finger at the AfD,
but are preventing the application for a ban at the Constitutional Court. This duplicity could soon take its revenge. Because then the votes for a motion could be missing.
Unfortunately, the election results will show this and strengthen the AfD. Not because of the CDU and its proposal, but because of the democratic parties' inability to solve problems.
Germany is not a microcosm without thinking outside the box. The politics and impact of the migration issue in Sweden and Denmark, for example, are very well recognised.

Tell me what you think about this: I think it was better if Merz succeeded with his plan, because now voters will move to the far right in order the migration problems get solved. And the problem exists, you can´t brush it aside anymore. In entire EU it needs to be solved - meaning organized.
Despite warnings, Merz has systematically used right-wing populist rhetoric in recent years and thereby helped the AfD reach the 20% mark. This analysis doesn't even talk about that.
