Rendering is one of my problems. Don't understand if i must make shadows and highlights in one layer with flat colors or on different layers 🤔

Shadows are more important than light when rendering, that's where the most time must be spent. The best result comes from using the right shapes to create soft or hard shadows.

A mandatory skill to have to make great shadows is understanding anatomy. No need to be an expert, but it's necessary to know the different faces of the body and face's volumes, because of a simple rule : planes facing different directions are lit differently

Thus, when you know the planes, and decide which ones are facing directly the light source, you can easily shade the other planes depending on how much the face away from the light source.

For me, I guess it's how to be consistent with certain techniques. I'm self taught so I watch videos to learn and experiment and sometimes I get amazing results, like wow how did I do that? No seriously how? 😭

Consistency in a technique comes when you undrestand why it gives this result, and how to reproduce it. You need to create a process and repeat it over and over. The end result will vary no matter what. That's why you have to be mindful in every step, having intent in each stroke
