I don't think we can afford to do it but I think we will do it.

The water companies have huge amounts of unsustainable debt. Wait for them to go bust, take over the assets and - unfortunately - pay no compensation.

The shareholders of, say Thames Water, collectively are millions in debt.
So any compensation on nationalisation should only be paid once they have paid off that debt.

I think the issue that if we buy it, we need to invest in it and that means billions of infrastructure payments. Better to let them clean up the mess first, then put it back in public hands. Privatise the profits, privatise the losses too.
