I cleaned the laptop, removed the old thermal paste and applied new fresh thermal paste! laptop still works thankfully. I've done this 2 other times since owning this laptop (bought it in the summer of 2019)

I think you need higher quality thermal paste if it's getting crusty that quickly.
I've recently taken the CPU cooler out of my 12 year old PC for the first time, never replaced the thermal paste one and it was still gooey.

I just assumed it's all the same, so I bought 1 tube of Thermal Grizzly's Kryonaut. Will make sure to check up on the paste every few months I suppose. If you have any recommendations on thermal paste let me know!

Thermal Grizzly should be high quality, I used theirs a few times.
Thermal paste like that should be lasting years, not months.
