It's more often used in Player vs Player situations, as there is often an element of luck involved, e.g. bullet spread, accidentally winding up in a stronger position, finding better gear first, third party intervention, through which a bad player may beat a good player.
Monster Hunter Rise's character creator was the main reason I got the game in the first place, though I did greatly enjoy the game after as well (with friends) but I spent hours creating my character(s).
Even games with limited character creator and customization options are great, but when games just let loose and give you such freedom in creating your character it's truly a great feeling.
My daughter was the same way, she took half an hour at least to make a character. I usually press random a few time until I see something I like and change a single feature
