Locks are mostly for show, getting a photo of someone (not that that works) is already one step more complicated than getting past traditional locks. This is purely a convenience thing for the owner, not having to faf about with a key.
Locks are not just for show necessarily, letting anyone open your door without forcing it and/or taking time is terrible. They're a deterrent and this just makes the only deterrent be your face which is easy to obtain. Even no lock may be better than advertising you're a easy mark with this lol
Most locks take all of 5 seconds to pick, also you can always break a window and on one will even raise an eyebrow, sure its better than nothing but realistically they aren't doing anything to stop someone who wants to get into your house getting in... alarms do the heavy lifting.
It can be fooled easily enough.
And even if it can't (yet), burglar just have to catch you and put your face in front of it. There are ways to do that. Not nice ways, but thieves are not known to be nice people.
Since you'll always keep a lock for safety/sharing, it seems superfluous to add this.
okay but at that point they could also just take the key out of your pockets with a normal door/lock, that scenario wouldnt exactly be less secure with faceid lol
yes, it wouldnt be *more* secure but this seems more like a slight convenience thing and not much more
This is the same sensor used on the iPhones/iPads, which so far have no real issue with wrong matches unless you have an identical twin, this is a great feature to have
Right, away from my (admittedly slightly trolling) response the idea of having my door lock motorized and connected to a network is insanely unappealing.
Bravo Apple for being willing to endure the horrible, horrible PR the inevitable breach of this tech will obviously create.

A semi-realistic mask from a picture could work, and that's assuming they don't skim on the sensor to begin with.
No point adding more attack surface in for the "convenience" of not having to use a key.
