I accidentally bought a platinum 10/31 WSP ticket last year but the show got cancelled so I got a refund lol. hate how they have all the good seats as platinum’s now so when you click best available that is what you pull. super annoying and shady business practice but it’s TM so I guess expect it
dude *EVERYONE* hates Ticketmaster/Live Nation. literally every person who has bought a ticket in past 20 years nows how much they and the ticket buying experience sucks. it’s a universal thing and I’m serious some politician should run on it
I should add, it’s really easy for me to say I never have and never will bc I’ve been seeing them for so long. There is no phish show big enough that I feel I HAVE to see. 33 years and some of the best phish shows of all time gives you that confidence.
That too, literally just texted my friends that I’m not playing this game and will just grab off COT within a week of shows. Has been working for me this way for years.
Most people can’t stomach waiting. There are very few shows of any band where I buy tickets far in advance these days. It takes the experience of doing that a lot to eventually be comfortable with it. And it’s tougher if you’re traveling.
In 2017 my brother and his wife were coming to only one show the whole year, MSG. I wanted them to have good seats. I bought myself an aisle seat in Sec 2, and bought them the aisle pair one row above me. I don’t remember what regular face was but these were $180 each. Seat next to me was unsold.
I’d do it again for same reason if the price was reasonable like it was then. I have never ever paid a scalper and I’ve never paid under face for an easy ticket from another fan.
I think if someone is doing a single show or just one run, it’s much easier to justify spending a bit more to make it special. That would be the right time to me to take advantage of the platinum seats.
Kinda. We traded VIP goose tickets for Phish @ the Greek. We didn’t ask the guy to buy platinum tickets but he did because he wanted the goose tickets that badly 🤷🏻♀️
Yes this past NYE. Never did an NYE show and told myself it was the year. Struck out on lottery and boned on TM queue. Will always pay for the best seat I can find and scored first row Sec 101. Totally worth it for me to make it happen.
I bought platinum tickets for NYE 2023 and regret nothing. The number of people who think that their whining justifies people earning less is astounding to me. I’m not a defender of late stage capitalism, but I get the mechanisms of why it happens.
Yeah, I’m sure you’re right. I was thinking about regular dynamic pricing and the countless number of people it takes to put on a tour. It’s not just the band members that need to get paid.
I suspect that the expected income from platinum is already built into the cost/compensation structure for these workers, but I feel you. Arguably what you’re suggesting is bonuses for exceeding revenue targets, which is very much still in the realm of capitalism. I think MSG is union anyway.
This right fucking here, your poor friend not realizing they dropped 2k on fucking phish tickets all bc they know people are in a panicked state. Yet again, the current state of modern ticketing is bullshit.
Right, it was a complete waste of her time. This happened to me recently as well, where I can kept clicking on seats and I’m like “fuck that price!” And realized only upper and behind stage would be in my budget.
2x when I was desperate in 2022 when the demand was high post covid..anyway I was able to sell the one for MSG (which turned into 4/22) for face on COT, but the one for Dicks that summer wasn't that much more than face for some reason.
I won't anymore.
Not that I can recall. I feel like you can always find what you need on the secondary market and its never as much as platinum. I'm fine paying over face when I need to, but the last few years, demand seems to be off quite a bit and you can get what you need if you're patient.
Yes once this last 12/31. No ragrats. My boo’s first 12/31. Considering I hadn’t seen a 12/31 YEMSG either since like 2015 or some shit the math worked out! Did I try my literal ASS OFF to not? Yeah.
Once, I got a Tahoe ticket when I decided to go after the Gorge, ended up Tahoe was canceled b/c of the fires and moved to Shoreline so my platinum was good for shoreline which of course I could have gotten a ticket for day of but I was stuck with my overpay
Yeah, I’m very amused at the people who travel all over the country and see upwards of a dozen shows a year complaining about ticket prices. If I want to see Phish at my home venue of MSG and I don’t get the lottery, platinum it is.
Different people have different connections and everyone values their time differently so if platinums are worth it for you then it makes sense. I like the game of trying to get them for the regular face and I see a lot of shows so it would add up quickly otherwise, but I understand paying up.
Totally with you here. I don’t *like* playing platinum prices and much prefer lottery for face value given a choice, but I have been lucky enough to make a life where I am well compensated. It’s cheaper for me to go platinum to MSG than to travel to see them anywhere else.
Dude…I literally just did for Forest Hills N2. Was so excited I saw 4 awesome tkts, and just grabbed them while trying to answer a question on a zoom. Then realized they were premium priced after the transaction!! Good news is similar seats were ~2x a little later, so I am sure I can sell them 🤦♂️
Hahaha, technically they’re “AXS Premium”, so I think my record is still clean. I take full responsibility! Wish me luck tomorrow in the public on sale so I am not tempted to just keep them.
No, I’ve been lucky with the community helping me out when needed. we did just buy premium for tarrytown music hall because it’s literally the same price as a regular one (still confused about this but not complaining).
