I can’t wait to hear what he needs another couple billion to build that will then make Fusion possible? Bet it’ll also have a name that might have been cool in the 90s.
Had a physics lecturer tell me fusion is always 30 years away, it was 30 years away when he was in undergrad and it’s still 30 years away today.
We might crack it eventually, but it would be nice to use it for something less daft.
throwing myself off a cliff because I'm pretty sure by the time I get down there someone will have invented a cool anti gravity beam with which they can zap me
Fusion = bullshit. "Break-even" claims are misleading because they refer only to raw energy at the point of reaction. But oceans of electricity go into forcing the reaction. They're spending millions to mint pennies & calling it free money. Light-years from making competitively priced power
Look. Sam's just really needing that miracle technology that doesn't work but has constantly said we'd master soon through my entire lifetime to get his miracle technology that doesn't work can work! Just...we're fine. Remain calm. All is fine!!
Helion is so plugged into the Microsoft-OpenAI alliance it's unreal. The company refuses to actually engage with the scientific community and relies on that uncertainty to net investors. Like, sure, I totally believe they're going to supply 500MW of power to Microsoft in five years.
It isn't enough that fusion works. They need *Helion* to work because the actual realistic paths to fusion power so far rely on massive machines that would take many, many years to build and cost a whole lot of money and can't be transported around easily.
the models they’re developing (in china) for language translation are very promising actually. like socially it may be helpful to understand what people say in your presence but it will become easy to interact with people across languages
