Kelp gulls (Larus dominicanus) are known to parasitically feed on the blubber of live southern right wales and their calves. Increased harassment of whale calves by gulls in recent years is thought to be due to increased numbers of gulls reproducing in open-pit landfills near fish-processing sites.
