The problem with being a dictator is you need the military on your side. Not just the brass but the common soldier who actually pulls the trigger. No sign he has that and is actually killing benefits for them that piss them off. Who cares what a general says if Joe is radically against it

It’s exactly why we never had a large standing army of this magnitude until the Post-WW2 era, the Republic was always in the greatest danger from its own soldiers and this was shown repeatedly in South America in the 1900s.
