The first report I found on Google is slightly old but puts the mean value of a commuter's time at £11.21 an hour https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a80bdeced915d74e62302f2/vtts-phase-2-report-non-technical-summary-issue-august-2015.pdf So waiting 3 minutes to pay "costs" 56p. What do we reckon is the total daily cost to the UK public of faffing with rail ticket systems?

You may find a better price ticket is available there too
1) machine would not issue (Cheap) Day Return before 9:00,
I needed it for the 9:01 train
2)We were unaware that a Supersaver Ticket was available for another journey, a good discount on the Day Return Ticket
Luckily the ticket office staff advised us of this.
