The PS3 for example had a reboot in 2009 with a massive price cut and a focus on creating worthwhile exclusives like GoW 3, Uncharted 2, Killzone, etc.

The Xbox had the revised model but, didn't have the games that drove people to buy an Xbox One over a PS4

The first party exclusives on the Xbox One were lacking and the ones that did release (Halo 5 and Gears 5) are often considered the worst entries in their respective franchises

There are exceptions like Rare Replay but nothing of the sort released that moved units or didn't create controversy

The games that were worthwhile Xbox One exclusives (Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Ori, etc.) eventually left exclusivity and went to rival platforms like the Switch and PS4

The only things that made the Xbox One worth buying was Game Pass and backwards compatibility with previous generations of Xbox both of which came later in it's life

Overall, there was little reason to get an Xbox One over a PS4 during the 8th generation
