Very cool. It’s been on my list of things to do to see how easy it would be to add cmap to microfilm. It’s also, by the way, been on my mind to potentially add some simple convenience functions to cmap to colorize images… so feel free to PR if you found low hanging fruit

It was very easy thanks to the to_xxx functions. With those, cmap is also a life-saver every time I need e.g. the same colormap in a napari image and matplotlib plot. To colorize images you can just use mymap(myarray) no? That gives you a plotable RGB array. Did you have something else in mind?

Yes, you can just call it, But it assumes you’ve previously set contrast limits, perhaps paid attention to data type, etc… do you have to deal with any of that in microfilm?

Yes exactly. Users have a few options to rescale using min-max, type limits, explicit limits etc. It’s not huge, all done here: https://github.com/guiwitz/microfilm/blob/58c1de32bc9dc7576e2545b9bfec95fdd4032d41/microfilm/colorify.py#L221

It's difficult to know who and how many people use the package. If you do and encounter errors, please open an issue. Also, to follow recent developments in package management, you can test it with uv by using: uv run https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guiwitz/microfilm/refs/heads/master/docs/microfilm_uvdemo.py

Yes indeed 😅 For demos I was convinced by this example https://napari.zulipchat.com/#narrow/channel/212875-general/topic/uv.20.2B.20napari.3A.20run.20scripts.20from.20url/near/484529734 that amazingly runs napari in one line. For more heavy use I still need to find time to go through pixi docs to establish for myself a minimal conda equivalent.
