I empathize with elders who did the right thing all their lives, who believed in democracy and the rule of law and lived their lives accordingly. I empathize with the those still living who fought in WWII and understood the sacrifices made by all allies. Trumpian idjiots not included.
But… they are the Trump idiots. They are the Fox News consumers. All of them? No of course not. But overall, their narcissism and entitlement drove us to this point. I have little empathy for them
I understand. But good people and sometimes even not very bright bad people are worthy of empathy. If we lose our ability to show empathy we lose everything.
That’s the paradox. I don’t have empathy for those reaping exactly what they have sown. They deserve everything they have spent the last four decades voting for. I’ve been empathetic since I was riding buses to DC in my early twenties to protest the bush regime.
Just like not everyone voted for Donny, all elders are not selfish racists. Some of us spent our lives working for civil rights, inclusivity and a better world.
Then this isn’t directed towards you personally but certainly you, as an activist, have the self awareness to realize that your peer group has pulled the ladder up after yourselves once you got yours.
I don’t know about any ladder. I’m still drowning. I’m not saying you are not right, I just dislike the broad brush judgement. I hope I am fighting right next to you and others until my last breath.
Thank you for keeping up the fight but the boomers really screwed over the generations that followed. I’m forty and I’ve never seen it this bad before.
I feel extremely angry, had to take a break from some family members. But I’m trying not to disparage all the folks who voted for this. To me, it’s like a cult and we don’t de-program folks that way. JMO, and I thank you for your activism! 🙂
I have a few decades on you. Been in the trenches for voter access, fair housing, homelessness and more. I have never seen America this bad either. We have become what we fought against in WWII. 1/?
People in ttheir 80's now were the backbone of the civil rights struggle in the 60's. They were at Woodstock. They were conscientous objectors to the Vietnam War.
