These messages do nothing to better the lives of people across this country or improve trust that politicians take the responsibility of public service seriously.
I have faced prejudice for being a disabled, black woman all my life and, unfortunately, these messages highlight how far we still have to go to eradicate discrimination and damaging perceptions.
As International Women’s Day approaches, I want to
say to every young girl living with sight loss in this
country – while others may try to distract you or bring
you down, always trust in your own ability, stay
focused, work hard and you will rise. “
