Interesting to think about this in relation to Jay Rosen’s distinctions between the media, journalism, and the press - not as interchangeable terms, but as interrelated:

“Media is the attention industry.

Here's what's weird. I reckon that pretty much without exception, all my science journo colleagues totally get this. They see the problem. The gulf between them and (many of) the current affairs/poltical journalists seems immense, and widening.

laudable exceptions: yesterday in the "Tagesthemen" (flagship TV news program of ARD) and today in radio reports of the german public radio programs it was reported that marine le pen was convicted on the basis of a law that she had vehemently campaigned for in 2016/7.
