Here's little video I made in June 2019 while checking out 311 South Wacker. The atrium lobby is such a vibe. Truly one of the most spectacular postmodern spaces anywhere in the world.

100%. According to Ryan Ori's reporting, the building is set to close around $70 million — a fraction of the $302 million it sold for in 2014. The downtown office market has absolutely cratered in Chicago since the pandemic.
We had the ceremony in the atrium, then we had drinks and apps in the balcony spaces above while they moved all the chairs and set up tables for dinner. We also had a Rainbow Cone ice cream cake!
Isn't that atrium separate from the tower? Maybe they could retain the atrium.
I used to work at 100S Wacker and there is (was?) a restaurant in the lobby where we would occasionally go for drinks. It was pretty spectacular at sunset.
The atrium is separate from the main tower but according to the story, that's where developers see a chance to add value or make money — scraping the entire site for multiple towers instead of the one office tower and sprawling atrium event space/lobby
A few shots of the lobby. Something about this space always reminded me of those really early point and click CD-ROM fantasy/adventure games like Myst — particularly the textures and sense of going on a journey through the space.

It was such a lovely surprise.
Wish I had mote reason to go there.
