Nearly 800 incarcerated people are now helping to fight the LA fires, according to the California Department of Corrections. They're paid between $5.80 and $10.24 per DAY, plus $1 an hour when responding to active emergencies.

Prison labor should be voluntary, fairly compensated, and reasonably safe. None of those conditions are being fulfilled here.
