When I bought my last car, I actively looked for one that had buttons and dials for air-con and radio. I am not fiddling with a touch screen to mute the radio. I was unpleasantly surprised how difficult it was to find a new car with buttons, not just a touch screen.
My despair was where the newer cars put their dash displays too. I do NOT want to turn my head to the left to check my speed when I spent more than two decades learning to glance down for the two seconds it takes to check speed behind the steering wheel. As for a touch start? No way 🫣 😞
Absolutely. I think this combined with the increase in huge vehicles for family use is a large part of why automobile crashes (and deaths) have been increasing. I don’t know if there is any data on these factors.
Hi Jennifer - Yes, good analogy- it does feel a bit like tat.
It's great to see you here. We followed each other on Twitter until my account got suspended a few days before the US election.
Looking forward to continuing the connection with you here.
I've NEVER driven with three on the tree and always wanted to. I'd love to teach my kids to drive manual just because I feel like it gives a better understanding of what the car's doing and how it's working. Could just be a "back in my day!" situation though. 🤷♂️
We had an EJ wagon. One of my early memories, I just happened to be playing in the driveway when dad turned in with the new car. Was my daily driver until... late 80s?
I know people who, after many years, turn on windscreen wipers every time they want to indicate a turn.
I will not buy a European car ever for this reason.
I hope I am forgiven if I make gaffes on here, e.g. react with uncharacteristic rage and use immoderate language. It has happened.
Yeah I own a BMW 7 series and had a GRANGE stretch limousine and had to be on the ball swapping out a few times a day.
I think the administrators here are progressive and will look to smooth things out rather than make them worse like the dark place
Adequate boot space I hope -that's not always the case, especially with the zippy, smaller hatchbacks nowadays - they're just not fit for that purpose IMO

All the info I need is available with barely a glace, and I can operate most functions without taking my eyes off the road.
Musk introducing an i-pad like display in the Model S was the start of a slippery slope.
Not a touchscreen or heptic buttons.
Real physical buttons, slide controls & dials.
And real guages with needles.
Basically anything pre-2010ish.
Good analogy 😂
You have to pull over and jiggle everything

🤣🤣🤣
It feels and looks so much like Twitter.
Most people will work out the details pretty quickly.
News feeds plus many others
…scroll, scroll, Nazis, scroll, scroll, billionaire man-child… those tend to give it away
It may have been a Valiant Charger
Automatics were just as clunky as manuals then. From memory auto's were two speed and changing gears was heavily discouraged
Annoyingly, the automatics I could afford were also in the tree or push button
Awful car. Couldn't pull the skin of a bowl of junket.
In Brisbane. No aircon of course.

'Cause we're in the backseat,
Kissing & a hugging with Fred..." 😆
Both of us together,
One each side & steady as she goes……”
Turning corners with the wipers going! 😂🥹
😆
