1930/40s UK wasn’t any more welcoming to immigrants, even Jewish ones. I am researching my very lucky family’s survival stories. Every single one was only reluctantly given temporary leave to be here (Kitchener camp, domestic service visas etc). Citizenship granted 1947 as nothing to go back to.
