Joe Biden won't enforce the TikTok ban before leaving office, an official says, as Donald Trump pledges to save the app that the U.S. has called a threat.

If trump was half the negotiator he claims to be, he would propose an American app like TikTok be available to Chinese if that's unacceptable to the communist then TikTok has to go, simple.
Good chance he's talking with the Chinese to convince them to sell it to Elon Musk. (The article doesn't say that but it's my suspicion.) https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cre7vdz4npzo
Banning Tik Tok for national security reasons was a bi-partisan decision which passed a bill to do so (if not sold to an American company) and signed by President Trump. The Supreme Court upheld the law. How would any president have constitutional authority to overturn it?
WHY, WHY, WHY did Vice President Felon Trump start the attack on TikTok in the first place? Is it suddenly safe from China taking personal data or is it that Trump doesn't care about that because he wants access to the users? He wants it for his purposes, users be dumb.
So this exact thing would happen- outrage is stoked, people blame it on biden, and he gets to play hero for 'saving' the app and try and rewrite the story to make it look like biden risked censoring social media and he prevented it from happening.
The app deserves the ban. Making people become attention whores doing dances and "trends." Not to mention one less addictive app the better. It does suck we can have the federal government ban one app from a foreign adversary. But not wrangle in Meta... at the end of the day two obvious things.
Trump reversed his stance talking to an investor in TikTok. Who also contributed to Trumps campaign fundraising. I'm sure the CEO of TikTok is also likely "gifting" money to Trump. Likely pay $9,000 in coffee and biscuits at a Trump hotel.
Policymakers need to understand that in the age of generative AI, bulk audiovisual data can be more valuable than the birthdays and email addresses users use to sign up for apps like TikTok. Trump doesn't care about National Security. https://www.rand.org/pubs/comment...
An own goal by Biden. Why sign a bill into law when you're not going to enforce the law? They played into the hands of the Republicans. "Biden banned TikTok, Trump saved it".
Trump only wants to save TikTok because he got a nice donation from mega donor Billionaire Jeff Yass. Not because he cares what the American people want. Trump looks like a for sale politician by reversing his position. Not a win for Trump.
Since the ban was actually demanded by Rs with Ds actually not as strongly in favor. Now it falls on Trump to enforce it and risk further alienating his base that despises anything Chinese.
Because the CCP has direct access to the app and its data, and the CCP has made surpassing the US their top priority. “Private industry” doesn’t exist in China. They are actively influencing us on multiple fronts with the ultimate goal of disrupting our society.
Can you point me to evidence that they are actively influencing our society? Also, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and X are actively influencing our society and hoovering up our data. Should they be banned too? Or are they good because they’re American?
I literally just linked to a House Oversight hearing on the subject. And even though there is direct evidence of the US-based social networks being subjected to foreign influence campaigns, they aren’t directly owned by a US adversary. Banning a US based app isn’t as simple.
That article literally says nothing about any specific way China is influencing the U.S. via TikTok. Literally nothing. Just asserts it.
Now, if we passed federal privacy law that forbid the misuse of data, then we could ban any app at all which broke that law—including American ones.
I mostly get quick food recipes from TikTok. Now what will I prepare for dinner? The CCP knows I like three cheeses on my twice cooked brussel sprouts. Those criminals. It’s not like I’m stealing top secret files.
This platform should be banned across the world as a mental health concern, but I imagine how convenient it is for the governments to have citizens without a critical thought in mind.

Watch the fireworks when he doesn’t.

It isn’t a ban on TikTok…. It’s a ban on Byte Dance.
