No. I live literally in the middle of all the fires. Our Santa Ana winds have gusted up to 50mph today. When the Palisades fire started they were hurricane force of 100mph. Power lines are above ground in mountainous ranges. Winds snap those lines and a tiny spark can burn thousands of acres.
Furthermore we’ve had 0.016” of rain in Southern California. No rain, dry brush, mountainous ranges with above ground power lines, and high winds equal wild land fires.
Powerlines have caused many of CA's fires - is there any legislation to force them to bury powerlines?
Any groups working to do this? It's practically THE biggest cause of fires in CA.
Appreciate what you can tell me on this - or is no one aware that lines can be buried?
Power lines can definitely be buried. It all comes down to money. We have enormous mountainous ranges and that’s where the issues are. We already pay the highest electricity costs in the nation, ex: my 2,200 sq ft home runs me roughly $700 a month in electricity costs. I live alone.
But our costs are high because we pay for the fires of the past that the electric companies have been sued over, Ex: Paradise, CA. What we need are better building regulations. The wealthy guy who wants to build on top of a mountain should be an automatic NO. But, money talks and power will be
Supplied via above ground power lines. I live in an area with not one visible power line so it IS possible. We just need better environmental oversight over the power companies and building and safety departments.
well: PG& E etc are making you refill their profits then, when they should not have gotten profits during times that lit entire communities up due to powerlines.
Definitely on building, i'm writing up all the innovations and approaches I have found for a new take on the WUI.
What about a real push for decentralized power - through solar per home or in small 10-person regenerative units.
Are any reps working on this? I'm doing so in my state, there are truly useful things to do.
It's time to prepare for these events in a meaningful way. California needs to build infrastructure into properties to suppress fires, large reservoirs to fill with filtered fresh water to extinguish them, and design buildings and communities specifically to be fireproof. This will keep happening.
Haven't heard the cause as yet and honestly, it doesn't take much. Any spark will do. The Santa Ana winds are back and they are pushing hard to the southwest. This is lots of very dry scrub on the surrounding hills. A recipe for yet another fire disaster in SoCal.
Unfortunately, they are back with a vengeance. I lived in SoCal for 30 years. Wildfires, Santa Ana's, mud slides, earthquakes. I went through it too. It has been breaking my heart to see this happening for the last couple weeks.
Is this climate change or Stephen Miller, Maga Chief of Policy and hard-core Nazi, cleansing the "radical liberal elites" with fire like his book said he would...the timing is just....
Fascists are known for destroying food supplies as to starve out the poor people. Happened in Venezuela.
Yes, it's not. That's my point here. Which is it...new fires start everyday? Someone run the odds of these fires and compare to past trends in that area. Bet it's wacky. I'd put money on that.
As I have said before, if you can see the wildfire flames with your own eyes, it’s time to go. Avoid the rush and traffic jams. A vehicle is a terrible place to try to ride out a wildfire. It doesn’t provide much protection. Leave ASAP.
Make sure they don't send any of us DEI people to help...I mean we can't possibly know what to do it doesn't matter if we've been trained and educated and have been doing the job. I hope you all take heed to the evacuation orders You are more important than things.
I see that now. My apologies. I get tired of the misuse and lack of knowledge about DEI. I have no doubt it will be coming out of MAGA mouths constantly.
It’s so unnerving to be at the hands of someone so very petty and vindictive, so lacking in morality, especially during a time of crisis. He would seriously delight in watching CA burn, just as he did watching J6. Makes me sick.
Are they going to cancel emergency notifications until the agencies involved purge their DEI language and programs? Gotta keep our priorities straight.
And, yet, our Commander in Chief has directed reserve Marines to leave California and head to the border. Actual American citizens are in danger and he’s off staging a political stunt.
Not giving him any credit whatsoever here - but military aircraft from Point Mugu have reportedly been involved in fighting this fire.
(I’m hoping this will prevent him from coming here this week. I know the Governor is trying to appeal to that cold, dead heart but we’ve been through enough.)

WUI is not the suburbs

PG&E is rather famous for that
add to that the 30 - 40 mph wind and everything goes FPHUMP
My god - He is medically unfit and must be impeached as such
Make a "Go-Bag" for each person near the door with special documents, spare medication, and a change of clothing inside.
If the fire spreads, grab the bags and do not look back. Be safe.

Seriously I think someone’s starting these fires on purpose !!!
We are alone
