Southwest Airlines will begin charging customers a fee to check bags, abandoning a decades-long practice that executives had described last fall as key to differentiating the budget carrier from its rivals.

This is one of the main reasons I fly Southwest, so I guess I’ll go back to not having brand loyalty to any particular airline. (The other was that I liked choosing my seat, which is also going away.)
I thought President Biden eliminated junk fees. He bragged about doing that on numerous occasions. Do you think he forgot to do it but thought he remembered doing it? Or is Southwest Airlines violating Bidens junk fee rule?
Time to leave SW no reason to stay. Lots of people complaining. Sent an email to the 80 year old billionaire corporate raider at Elliott. Just as stupid as the orange blob.
It’s disappointing to hear that Southwest is abandoning free checked bags. Now, they’re just like every other airline, and people will probably just look for the cheapest ticket. But honestly, what even counts as cheap anymore? Might as well start driving to places at this point.
I don't even check bags that often but the no baggage fee policy was enough to get me to choose Southwest time and time again. Oh well, they can now get in line and compete with everyone else.
But when your plane crashes into another plane bc there aren’t enough air traffic controllers ensuring clear air space, you’ll hardly remember being annoyed by baggage fees as you plummet to your death.
Agree. Our flying days are over at least until the shenanigans with DOGE and Starlink possibly running air traffic, etc. Might be four years to drive everywhere, might be more, but way too much wrong with air travel today to get me on a plane.
