Governments won't enact anything that will cost them or their benefactors money.

Governments don't want panic, because scared people close their wallets.

They got the vaccines to the point where enough of the right people don't die in a short time, then they wiped their hands and said "job done".

As long as there’s not too many at once the money will flow. Politicians only think as far as the next election. By the time it might be a problem again, most of the current politicians will be gone.

Why they don’t want to protect themselves and their families I don’t know.
