I did this in 2020 after my grandfather passed just days before Christmas. I often find myself missing him this time of year and realize now that I haven't done one of these since. Used to love the tradition but now when I start one it doesn't have the urgency they used to. And maybe that's okay.
We all navigate the season in different ways and that’s ‘ok’, especially when loss or trauma is involved. Stay encouraged that each year the hurt may sting a little less and perhaps some traditions, both old and new, will gradually fill those spaces. Cherish the memories that spark comfort & joy
Second Christmas without my dad - one thing for sure, he'd have loved this drawing, and that made me smile. Thanks for sharing, the drawing and the memory, even though it aches extra for you this time of year. 💜
I lost my grandmother in December of 2019, and that's made getting through this time of year pretty tough. I couldn't read any prose stories for years because of it (she encouraged my love of reading).
I finished reading my first novel since then this month...
