Absolutely - anyone considering a dog from a shelter needs to speak directly with them for full information & background before making any decisions. It’s a big commitment and not something to be taken lightly - otherwise these dogs end up straight back in through no fault of their own

I’m more concerned with the safety issue than the dog being returned. Not all shelter personnel are adequately trained and many shelter animals come with limited or no prior history except what is experienced at the shelter. I’m not anti-shelter. There’s certainly a need for them.

The coastal SPCA groups may take him for adoption on the coast. The central Coast SPCA brings dogs out of Bakersfield to Santa Maria. Contact the shelters for POC in their areas. Good luck.

My heart just breaks. He seems like such a good boy. We have a rescue dog and she is the sweetest gentlest girl. But I don’t think she’d do well with another dog in the house. She’s a bit jealous and protective. Otherwise I’d come and get him. I hope you find a home for him soon.
