Moving on and rejecting something because it's no longer trendy is the opposite of being a "fan" of something. There's a reason why "fan" is an abbreviation for "fanatic". 🤭

We always called those types bandwagoners or tourists depending on how annoying they were.

I feel like there's two main forces at work with this.
The first is capitalism - Simply, new and hyped things sell better, so once that window's passed it's important to replace it with something new to keep the numbers up.

The second is that being an actual fan of something requires an emotional investment, which just makes you vulnerable to the people who'll go out of their way to hurt you for liking something that they don't. Which just drives people towards only engaging with the new hotness.

my hot take is that it's not really fandom if everyone moves on after like 2 weeks bc rlly man what even is there? Kids these days will never understand the unhinged multiyear obsession smh my head the youth of today man I swear😔
