Very true! Everyone has to eat. But consider that an architect doesn’t earn royalties on the building they designed after their death, what they pass on to their kids is the house they bought with the money they made when they sold it.
Copyright is weird because it makes artistic work into a kind of property, unlike other kinds of work which are transitory.
(All this presupposes the artist getting paid a fair amount for their work, and a more reasonable copyright licensing term where they make royalties for use, not ownership)
