I have a few books through Amazon now (I write kids' books about my Japanese cats and Cryptids), and the biggest price was time... their editors will kick it back very quickly for the smallest edits, only for your proofs to get messed up somehow. Still... I recommend it.

Self publishing is way more costly thanpeople realize, i recently learned about the cost of isbns and I felt a year escape my eye

I would go the route of trad publishing if the book was viable, but it's co-authored so we just said "eh we will do it ourselves!" I will be able to afford to self-publish once so I hope this goes well! My other book will just have to be queried.

If you publish only through Amazon, you don’t need ISBNs. Ingram Spark requires those, but you can always buy them later and list your book there once you have them.

Whew audiobooks are very expensive. I’m going to either narrate mine myself or do a kickstarter eventually.

Right? I used to do voice acting back in my 20s so I have all the equipment, but I have to do MANY takes and a lot of editing whereas a pro can narrate seamlessly without their tongue getting fat.
