just putting it out there that if you unironically use "pretty privilege" as a rhetorical cudgel to reduce women to their body parts online to win arguments about "who has it harder," you're a bitter misogynistic freak :')

Yeah the halo effect is a real thing but not like that and it includes men as well as someone who currently has that as a guy (can’t wait to transition)
pretty privilege is when i was in an uber at 3am last april, (leaving the wedding my pfp is from!) and the driver asked me why "a girl like me was all alone," if i was married, and if id like to be his wife (4 times)
then he waited outside my friend's house where he dropped me off for 10 mins
pretty privilege is last year at a bar, within 90 seconds of my friend leaving, a guy sat down next to me in a booth (blocking my exit) and started rubbing my shoulders.
i said i had to go, pushed past him, he grabbed my arm *hard* and said "don't be a bitch" when i denied him my phone number
Something I've learned is that if you're somewhat pretty but also not perfectly passing a cadre of mentally unwell men will make it their life's work to punish you for making them feel uncomfortable feelings. And by that I mean scream slurs and occasionally throw things.
I ride in the androgynous lane and it gets really frustrating when a cis person gets mad at me for making them feel something sexy.
Not the best for our mental health or social health to encounter that so much. The fatigue of it all takes its toll.
Don't know who started this particular "discourse" but I just wanted to sigh and go for a walk. Like on top of the misogyny it is just... now? This is the time for it? Really?
Someone I knew once said "Being able to conform to the desires of your oppressors is not a form of privilege" and that has stuck with me. Idk how broadly applicable it is, but I think about it often.

I wish more people understood that.
