Following the Matt Gaetz news, what I said yesterday still applies. Don't follow the circus. Matt was never going to be confirmed. Matt knew it and Trump knew it. What Matt wanted to do was to escape the house ethics report getting released.

When Gaetz was nominated within hours of Tulsi Gabbard's nomination for DNI, it seemed obvious that Gaetz was a distraction. Gabbard as DNI is Putin's dream-come-true and an existential threat to national AND global security. Gabbard is the one nominee Trump will fight to the death for.
Nope. Mainly because he was a congressman. He was never a senator. Could he technically be sworn in the 119th Congress? Maybe? But they will release the report if he does. And importantly, he doesn't want to.
He only gets away with what he gets away with because the people around him allow him to do so the only thing he has is compromat given to him from From Putin & FSB&SVR or other Russian Hacks For Trump Oped that he holds over people like Lindsey Graham, & others who knows maybe Elon Musk now
Trump was prosecuted for the E.Jean Carrol assault long after the statute of limitations had expired. NY and other states realized that their are crimes that should not be expunged
I respectfully disagree. I went to bed on 8th November 2016 safe in the pollster assurances that there was no way in any version of hell Donald Trump would win.......
Wondering what the father of the girl(s) are thinking. Iβm pretty sure Iβd loose my mind and prolly need friends to help keep me from doing something.
Quick question-
When your mold from under the bottom of the barrel candidate loses, what's your next pick?
I'm not sure I can stomach much more of learning about the sex life and morals of the GOP.
If what MTG posted is real, we should really just burn that house down.
Clock's ticking on the woefully-underqualified, alleged sexual abuser #PeteHegseth now. Just wondering who these no-hopers (is #Gabbard another?) are cover for?
I still want it released. I donβt care if he dropped out, or that heβs no longer a congressman. Itβs time to play hardball. Donβt let them get away with these little games and gimmicks. If they wonβt release it, then somebody should leak it. Screw protocol.
Nope. Because DeSantis himself wants that seat in 2 yrs. He will appoint a placeholder who will leave after a 2 yr term or can be easily defeated. A Senator is a very powerful & sought after position. It would not be smart strategically for DeSantis to put someone in that seat who will not leave it.
Nope! A resignation is not a retirement. He is out of his congressional seat. He is not going to be the Attorney General of the United States. He is going to run for Florida Governor in 2 years.
The biggest fallacy in American politics is that Matt Gaetz is an idiot. Matt is not an idiot. He's incredibly smart and incredibly strategic. Matt loves to be underestimated. Privilege is an understatement. This is a game for him and unfortunately one he is skilled at.
I know Matt personally. I've known him for years. He is (was) my representative in Congress. I worked with him when he was in the Florida Legislature. I know of whom I speak.
No. He just escaped accountability. Just quitting isn't strategic. Figuring out how to quit where you're not held accountable and your political career remains intact? That's strategic
Maybe investigative reporting of all these nominees will dredge up more skeletons in all of the closets more dreadful that what we know on the surface.
Conditioning? It's a normal thing to react with horror when you see something that is horrifying. It takes mental training to be able to move past the initial reflex reaction of shock and disgust and instead try to figure out why.
I guess there's also a money-making machine dedicated to reacting in horror and taking us all on the exhausting journey. So hard as a 'normal person' to find the right balance of 'tuning out' vs. 'staying informed'.
It's tough even for us political strategists. It's a shameless plug but one I'm going to make anyway, I work for an organization that tries really hard to explain what's happening, why, and what it means. We don't intentionally fear monger. We tell you what we are seeing. Follow the people at LP.
He can only be pardoned for crimes heβs found guilty of. So if he wants a pardon he has to plead guilty to something. I donβt think this is strategic. Itβs all from the gut. Trumps gut instincts are find the worst people and make the get in the car with you then suck their souls from their bodies. I
Trump was happy to give him a nomination that would send the libs spiraling & dominate a week of news, knowing that it costs him nothing, it would give him a metric by which to measure his other nominees' viability & allow him to slip in someone else who is awful but "is better than Matt Gaetz."
Not at all. Trump was never serious about Matt being the AG. Trump was serious about being loyal to someone who's been loyal to him. Matt is not a reflection on Trump. Matt is a reflection on Matt. Trump has always wanted Matt as Florida Governor. This was always the plan.
Meanwhile, Matt is currently a private citizen and it would be precedent setting for the house ethics committee to release an ethics report on a private citizen. By the time it will impact Matt's FL gubernatorial race (which was always going to be his next play) That ethics report will be gone.
The precedent is set already. The house has released an Ethics committee conclusion After a representative named Bill Boner(sic!) retired from the house.
They have no leg to stand on.
It's the play within the play you need to watch. For those who don't think that Trump is smart enough to figure this out, you may be right. But Trump is not coming up with the strategy. And he has surrounded himself with legitimate villains who are as strategic and intelligent as they are evil.
This was my immediate reaction, and like you was similarly told Trump doesn't play chess. Well maybe not but he is surrounded by Musk, Thiel, Miller, Bannon, the Federalist Society and a whole bunch of others who do.
Let me further blow your mind, Trump will give him a blanket pardon. Because Trump is the one who wants him to run for Florida governor. And if you are pardoned from your crimes, then you can't be convicted of them. And MAGA will say we were never able to prove anything. That it was a "witch hunt"
If it crossed state lines or international lines (which it allegedly did) that's in federal territory. If it took place in Florida, the state AG is a buddy of Matt's. She's not going to prosecute.
There is no reason to give him a pardon. He hasn't been charged with anything on the federal level...or the state level for that matter. And, there are no signs that any charges will be brough.
Sadly, the residents of Florida, seem to have no qualms about electing criminals to office.
Yeah, legally DeSantis can appoint him to fill Marco Rubioβs senate seat - bypassing any accountability from the people. And I wouldnβt be shocked if this was the plan all along, with a few smoke and mirrors to make MAGA view it all as a βwitch huntβ - mark my words, that appointment will come.
Nope. Because DeSantis himself wants that seat in 2 yrs. He will appoint a placeholder who will leave after a 2 yr term or can be easily defeated. A Senator is a very powerful & sought after position. It would not be smart strategically for DeSantis to put someone in that seat who will not leave it.
Marco wasn't on the ballot this year. His current term expires in 2 years. 2 years will be the end of his 6 year term that started when he was re-elected in 2022.
Marco Rubio was elected in November of 2022. The next election for his seat is 2028. And then being sworn in in January of 2029. So no, Iβm not wrong. Two years? How are you mathing?

The question is: Will Gaetz be held accountable?

Isn't Gaetz withdrawing a bodyblow to Trump, showing that his transition is already faltering? That will cost him.

a state prosecution.
