These are UK readers. Whisper it, but the US election is actually much more important to UK security and prosperity than pretty much anything that is going to change in the Budget on 30 October.
Security, yes, but I don't see how the composition of the US government will make much difference to UK's prosperity either way. That is in the hands of the Brits, not the Yanks.
Donald Trump's tariff plans would cause a global trade war - bad for British prosperity. His deportation plans would cause, among other things, social unrest and economic slowdown in the United States - which as we have seen is bad for the global economy.
Yes, of course, but I'm not sure there's a big difference, from the UK's POV, between the actions of Republican Yanks and Democrat Yanks. Democrat President, House and Senate would, though, be optimal, methinks; and there's a good chance it will happen.
I would really suggest paying a little more attention to what the two parties are saying about a) Ukraine b) tariffs c) the war in a region that has a huge impact on energy prices.
At the same time, the impact of trade with the US is surely less important to the UK economy than structure of the economy internally and trade with the EU. Reeves needs to implement a Land Tax and use fiscal stimulus. But probably won't.
True, true, the man has been and would be a disaster for pretty much everyone. A lot does depend, though, on the house and senate races. There is a tendency always to imagine a President is a Monarch; it is only when he tries to do anything that the truth becomes apparent. Only to be forgotten again
I would gently note that I used the word “election” for good reason, though in practice the harmful things Trump would do from a UK perspective mostly don’t require a GOP Congress.
Fair comment, but the president always has to make acccomodations with congress if he wants to get anything done. Like maintaining his ridiculously low corporate and top personal tax rates, which will sunset without congressional help.
The content will also change based on time of day or location. I access it from Europe mainland and if I‘m up early sometimes noticed a slant to Australian news which disappeared 2 hrs later
