Am teaching *Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl* tmro, and now am reading it in the context of ICE raids in my city and across the nation and the detention of refugees in for-profit prisons. Regardless of what the laws say, then and now, we have a moral duty to protect those seeking refuge.
