My experience also reinforces that cars turn us antisocial. Cars foster a strong might-makes-right interpretation of street space that is profoundly hostile and alienating. Transit and active transportation don’t inherently make us rivals of one another. They foster mostly positive interaction.

I had a pleasant chat with a neighbor I happened to see on the bus yesterday and I was nearly run off the road by a driver who was big mad the presence of my bike on a residential street might delay him to the next stop sign. Yet I constantly get asked by people if transit is “dangerous”. LOL
