It makes no sense to me that last year Justin Fields was available in a trade and only returned a sixth-round draft pick, and this year he's available in free agency and the Jets are giving him $20 million a year.

I think it just kinda indicates how the NFL sees him, which is basically your replacement level qb. Maybe he can pull a Sam Darnold and elevate that impression, he will look to get that opp on the field
FA signings are very different than trades, and trades are heavily dependent on contract details etc so not sure you can really compare. Deebo goes for a 5th and DK for a 2nd, Deebo is 2yrs older but is he that much “worse”?
I just don’t think you can say “well this guy got traded for a 6th a year ago he’s now worth $xM or he’s not worth $yM. NFL trades are all over the place when it comes to what picks are being included
