All this time I thought I was thoroughly English, but my great-great grandfather came here from Germany, so perhaps not. No hope for the kids, of course.

I've seen other people referring to this - what's it from? As the child of a half-English father born in Argentina and a German mother (and with half Japanese kids), this is intriguing.

Snap. Mine was deported to Germany as an undesirable alien at the start of WWI (despite having lived in England since at least 1875) and died a year later of a broken heart, according to family legend.
