I have read a few amazing things about orchids but I cannot verify them. Perhaps you know better?

1. Roman Emperors had men scouting for certain types of orchids bulbs as weight for weight they are the most nutritious food on the planet?

2. The bulbs are testicle shape hence the name from Latin?

Etymology
The type genus (i.e. the genus after which the family is named) is Orchis. The genus name comes from the Ancient Greek ὄρχις (órkhis), literally meaning "testicle", because of the shape of the twin tubers in some species of Orchis.

3. That to give an orchid to a partner is an erotic act because of 2 above AND the believe the bulbs, or tubers were thought to be an aphrodisiac.

I like the idea of this, even if it's not true!
