Lord of Chaos (book 6) is one of the best books in the series. I think all of the first 6 books are very good.
On the first read books 7-10 had times when I got a bit frustrated, but then again, at the time I always had to wait years for the next book so I was anxious for things to speed up.
Nah at that point that's just the pace. If the pace is already too slow in books 1 and 2, then IMO it's just not going to be for you and it's best to move on.
Life is too short to read books you don't like. I think book 4 is the best but I also will be rereading the series forever so your mileage is probably going to vary.
There is a joke that the Wheel of Time would be a very small story if only the heroes would communicate! That will continue… also RJs books tend to build to a crescendo so can start out fairly slow. But for most the slog doesn’t really start until after book 6.
Despite the best efforts of the TV writers, i am enjoying the show. I'd like to get the actual story, but thus far about four and a half percent of these books have been enjoyable
But that is not unique to this series! How many times have you not shouted at the TV: "Look behind you!" or "No, don't go out in the woods by yourself, you're the virgin!" Frustration builds tension.

People not communicating is rampant throughout the series I'm afraid. Frustrating at times to be sure.
As much as I love the books, I will never tell people to force through them.
