When I hear someone start a statement with "I'm not a racist," I try to interrupt them by saying. "Stop talking. You're doing good. Don't ruin it by showing your 'but'".

Unfortunately, when the hypothesis holds true more times than not, it's easy to take that reductive shortcut.

This "standing on the street corner" proclaiming their righteousness, isn't even biblical.

Anymore, I find that “patriot” gives me the ick, but combined with “Christian”, my experience has been nearly always negative. Using those 4 as a bio also seems to fit with a certain ideology. I am both a husband and a father, but as a bio, that’s not what I want you to know about me first

When you use descriptions like husband, father, christian, patriot that really apply to most people, you're implying that you see yourself above most people who are not really those things, which in turn implies divisive opinions about society.

In my part of the US several counties have put up signs at the county line reading "We Honor Veterans". As it's not indicative of any policy differences that I know of, it seems intended to create the impression that other counties might not.

There's something I've noticed A LOT--in MSM you will, not often enough, hear about Christian Nationalists and white supremacists, but almost never about White Christian Nationalists even though the intersection between the two is huge and likely far more than 50%.

I think that human brains like shortcuts. Not that anyone is actually going to do a study of people that fit into this paradigm but how inaccurate would it end up being? How many left leaning people use those descriptors together? Sure, there’s exceptions but are they significant?

While I agree blanket statements are problematic, I'm done with "respecting" the opposition and will put all Trump voters under the same banner. Sorry, they are bigoted, hateful, angry, people who have literally put the entire world at risk, while still complaining about how oppressed they are.
