I think the emotional response to sports has been dosed with kerosene, and now sitting down to watch a sports event without action on the game has made that feel like sports on Valium.
lotta people are into fantasy sports too (which are now full of ads for sketchy gambling apps and are losing some ground to "daily fantasy" aka standard gambling)
like yeah i get that at it's core fantasy is gambling but when the thing has it's history in dudes faxing their picks to each other and calculating scores from stats in the newspaper on extremely small scales, i feel like it's its own thing idk
I’d say fantasy is its own thing, but the boundaries are getting more and more blurry. Gambling amongst friends is fun, gambling with the billion dollar corporation is dangerous
If every stupid gambling app on Earth fell into a deep, deep hole, I would watch more sports than I do now. Love sports from amateur to professional, but the gambling is gross.
I've been trying to get into Japanese baseball for a while but every time I think about it I go and look how to watch it and get overwhelmed by all the hoops you have to jump through outside of Japan to keep up with it. I also want to watch American basketball, but the cost is prohibitive as well.
I like sports and I take a moral objection to the proliferation of sports book apps. But it seems like they’ve consumed probably half of my friends who used to be fun to talk sports with.
