I think that AI companies are going through what people say when they interact and creating more sophisticated reply bots. "to scrape" would be to s3arch for images, art, conversations, text that can be used for art AI and for more sophisticated chat bots.

The problem, for instance, in the case of art, is the AI companies aren't paying a fee or copyright for people's art or photos. They may be doing something similar with short unpublished stories, poems, conversations on social media.

At a simple level, "Artificial Intelligence", from what I have seen is a very complicated set of computer programs that generate images or texts based on search or question prompts. But the images and text come from humans. Basically, people on social media are being mined by AI companies.

I remember a conversation I had with my younger brother about ten years ago. He created his own software company, Codeweavers, and has much more computing experience than I do. In talking about Facebook, he said, we create the data that Facebook uses to sell to various companies.

It can be useful. There are certain phrases and terms that people often use in memos and reports. But what it is doing is cutting and pasting phrasing for a template of a report. It's like having the basic outline of an Xmad letter,and then using that basic outline to add a few personalized notes.

No, computer companies run by programmers getting large amounts of money to steal art, images, texts and ideas is not a good thing. It is theft and a crime wrapped up in sophisticated tech biz speak. I think a lot of the executives at some of these copyright violating companies deserve prison time.
