Revisiting a stinker from my childhood. Don't remember liking this one when it used to run on local T.V., even kids knew this was a bad puppet show. But I laughed a lot watching it tonight. This is the one that was in It Came From Hollywood, and they dubbed in rattling-teeth sounds when the Giant Claw chomped something— and then Tommy Chong riffed on the dubbed sounds. Infuriating. Canned hunt comedy.

Oh man, I watched this a couple years back for the first time and I loved it. I didn't think it was possible to make the Ugly Bird seem cool in comparison, but somehow Giant Claw did it.

The Ugly Bird was exactly what it made me think of last night. I can't remember what the Ugly Bird looked like in the Hillbilly John movie, but this doink makes a real impression. Strings and all.

Poor Jeff Morrow. He shot his entire part without knowing what the monster looked like or how it was being done (it's believed he thought Harryhausen would be animating it), so when he saw the completed film for the first time, he sneaked out of the theater, hoping no one recognized him.
