I get reading can be not fun sometimes but there's an incredible amount of subtext and information that people miss when outsourcing the data to models

These people don't understand doing things for pleasure or leisure. They'd outsource drinking that coffee if they could. Everything is an obstacle to be solved, nothing is to be done for its own sake.

I'm a big fan of outsourcing or automating menial and tedious tasks, and reading something I'm interested in is not one of them... to me that kinda defeats the whole purpose of why you automate/outsource stuff, to leave yourself with more time to do things that are fun and interesting!

On top of that, he's got no way of knowing if the information the AI slops out is even worthwhile or accurate to what he's trying to claim that he can have generated for him. AI isn't smart, it just makes pretty slop. And if that's all you're learning from, it's slop in, slop out.

Sometimes things just take effort and that's okay!! AI might be useful to help compile a list of resources, but I'd never trust it to summarize material accurately, and it might leave out things that may be useful or something I might personally find significant that it doesn't.

i enjoyed reading encyclopedias (age-appropriate ones in terms of information density lol) as a kid, and i can't imagine how much less fun it would have been to have something scan the book for me and tell me something. i'd have been limited to questions i'd have already been able to think of

Omg I was an encyclopedia kid too lol my parents had one that we kept under our TV and I'd just read random topics for hours. Go figure I'm a Wikipedia Rabbit Hole Adult now
