Texans: the House is holding a public hearing on SB 37, a bill which will (inter Alia) shift control for core curriculum in TX publics to governing boards (but with no infrastructure to implement these changes). You can submit written testimony.

One thing to watch for: if they don't aggressively define 'core curriculum', administrations will cast such a wide net that everything becomes core. We're seeing that happen in Utah. Any course required for graduation with any degree is being interpreted as 'core'.
Yup… this is exactly what we faculty who ate paying attention are anticipating. The end game isn’t just consolidating power but eliminating certain departments, clearly.
Yup. Though, it seems like at least some of the university-level admins throughout Utah have been convinced to change some course with enough concerted community pushback.
